Octavia Spencer Discusses Urgency of 'Lost Women of Alaska' Docuseries, Citing Personal Rage
Octavia Spencer, an Emmy-nominated actress and producer, has expressed her profound motivation for narrating and producing the docuseries 'Lost Women of Alaska.' Speaking at Deadline’s Contenders: The Nominees Studio, Spencer revealed that her interest in true crime dates back to age 11, and she felt it was her civic duty to highlight the stories of murdered and disregarded indigenous women in Alaska. She described feeling 'rage' over the systemic failures that allowed these crimes to occur and go uninvestigated, noting that over 1,300 indigenous women have gone missing in the community with minimal law enforcement intervention. Spencer, through her production company Orit Entertainment, aims to restore the voices of these women and provide resources to their families, focusing on the victims rather than the perpetrators.
