Animal Activists File Lawsuit Against Topgolf Over Bird Entrapment in Nets
Animal rights activists are taking legal action against Topgolf, alleging that the company's towering 120-foot nets are causing harm and death to thousands of birds across the country. The nonprofit Legal Action Network for Animals, led by attorney Nora Marino, has sent a letter to Topgolf demanding immediate action to acquire equipment and deploy qualified wildlife rescuers to free trapped birds. Activists claim that over the past eight years, numerous birds have become entangled in the nets, leading to suffering, injury, or death, which they consider acts of animal cruelty and violations of state law, particularly in New York. Reports from various locations, including Holtsville, Long Island, and St. Petersburg, Florida, describe incidents where birds, including hawks and vultures, were trapped, and company responses were allegedly inadequate or delayed. Topgolf operates 103 locations nationwide.
