U.S. and Morocco Deepen Ties with $1 Billion Highway and Green Project in Western Sahara
The United States and Morocco are strengthening their partnership over Western Sahara, focusing on infrastructure, clean energy, and diplomacy. Morocco has announced that its $1 billion Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway will be named after President Donald Trump, symbolizing appreciation for U.S. support. This development follows the U.S. approval of its first federally backed investment in Western Sahara, marking a shift from diplomatic recognition to direct economic involvement. President Trump reaffirmed U.S. recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara and outlined plans for broader economic and technological cooperation. The U.S. Trade and Development Agency has approved $5.7 million for a feasibility study supporting the proposed ORNX green ammonia project in Western Sahara, led by a consortium including U.S.-based Ortus Climate Mitigation LLC and Spanish-German joint venture Acciona-Nordex Green Hydrogen.
