Minneapolis Public Housing Authority Launches Safe Routes to Public Housing Initiative to Improve Resident Transportation Access
The Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MPHA), in collaboration with the Minneapolis Highrise Representative Council (MHRC) and staff from Minneapolis’ Health and Public Works Departments, has launched the Safe Routes to Public Housing (SRTPH) initiative. This program, funded by a Minnesota Department of Transportation active transportation planning grant, aims to enhance the safety, social connections, and health outcomes of residents by improving access to safe active transportation routes near MPHA buildings. The SRTPH initiative is modeled after the City of Minneapolis’ successful Safe Routes to School framework. Residents will provide feedback and insights into the barriers they encounter when walking, rolling, or riding around their buildings.
