Governor DeSantis Announces $230 Million Saved Through Florida Medicaid Fraud Crackdown
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that a state-focused crackdown on Medicaid fraud has saved the state approximately $230 million. Speaking at a news conference in West Palm Beach, Governor DeSantis detailed how his administration has expanded the use of data analytics, claims monitoring, background screening, and site visits to uncover fraudulent billing practices. As a result of these efforts, 250 providers have been placed on payment restrictions or had their payments suspended, and over 220 providers were terminated from Florida Medicaid due to fraud, waste, or abuse. Since January, Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) has conducted more than 400 provider site visits, with particular attention paid to areas such as applied behavioral analysis for individuals with autism, durable medical equipment, and adult daycare.
