Deadly Stabbing on Atlanta Beltline Shocks Witnesses, Suspect with Extensive Criminal History Arrested
A 29-year-old man died following a stabbing incident on the Atlanta Beltline near the Kroger on Ponce de Leon Avenue on Sunday afternoon. The Atlanta Police Department responded quickly, finding the victim with a stab wound. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with people running and one individual, Jor’dan Armstrong, being asked to flag down an ambulance. Police arrested 54-year-old Jonathan Hamby in connection with the stabbing. Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum noted that Hamby has an extensive criminal history, with 30 previous arrest cycles, and was on active probation for an aggravated assault case in Brookhaven at the time of the incident. Investigators are also exploring whether mental health issues played a role in the attack. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the fight and stabbing is ongoing.
