Texas Faces Prolonged Heat as El Niño Strengthens
Texas remains under heat advisories with some of the year's hottest temperatures expected this week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). While temperatures typically peak in mid-August, triple-digit heat can persist into October. The NWS predicts above-normal temperatures through at least October, particularly in western Texas. Additionally, a strengthening El Niño event, with a greater than 90% chance of being very strong during the Northern Hemisphere fall and winter of 2026-27, is expected to bring wetter and stormier conditions to Texas this winter. The Old Farmer's Almanac forecasts a warmer-than-average September followed by a slightly cooler October, with below-average rainfall throughout the fall. Source time: Tue, 18 Aug 2026 16:00:00 GMT.
