Bellefontaine Man Arrested for OVI After Red Light Violation Leads to Crash
A 66-year-old Bellefontaine man, Kevin Johnson, was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI) following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Sandusky Avenue and Madriver Street. According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, Johnson's SUV ran a red light and was struck by a semi-truck. Although neither driver required medical attention, officers noticed Johnson had bleeding on his knuckles. During the investigation, EMS personnel detected an odor of alcohol from Johnson, who admitted to consuming three beers earlier. Johnson refused to perform field sobriety tests and declined a breath test at the police department. An open can of beer was found in his vehicle, leading to additional charges for an open container violation. Johnson is scheduled to appear in Bellefontaine Municipal Court on August 17.
