Texas Governor Greg Abbott Seeks Federal Probe into Airport Washing Facilities, Muslim Group Denounces Move
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has requested a federal investigation into ablution facilities at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport. In a letter to the Department of Justice, Governor Abbott called for an immediate review of these facilities, suggesting they might be discriminatory. His office stated that because these airports receive federal funding, they must comply with all applicable anti-discrimination laws. The Governor also threatened to revoke state funding for the airports. Following this referral, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport reportedly abandoned plans to install additional ablution facilities, citing that the 'originally anticipated benefit may not be achieved.' The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Texas chapter has strongly criticized Governor Abbott's actions, labeling them an 'anti-Muslim political stunt.'
