Mother Mourns Second Son Lost to Pedestrian Accidents in Akron
A mother in Akron, Sharon Franklin, is grieving the loss of her second son to a pedestrian accident within three years. Her 35-year-old son, Jaymesson A. Franklin, was struck and killed while crossing West Market Street in Akron's Highland Square neighborhood. According to the Akron Police Department, officers responded to the multi-vehicle crash at approximately 2:05 a.m. A preliminary investigation revealed that a red Chrysler 300, driven by a 45-year-old woman, was speeding westbound when it hit Jaymesson Franklin. The Chrysler then collided with a Buick Encore and two parked vehicles. The driver of the Chrysler and the 57-year-old driver of the Buick were transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not yet released the name of the Chrysler driver, who is still hospitalized, and are awaiting toxicology reports, noting that alcohol was found in her purse.
