Former Mistress Reveals 'El Chapo' Guzmán's Dream of Becoming a Music Star
Lucero Sánchez, former mistress of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, has revealed in an interview with Mexican newspaper El Universal that the convicted drug lord once harbored dreams of becoming a famous singer. Sánchez, who testified against Guzmán in his 2019 federal trial in New York, stated that Guzmán's ambition was to join the iconic Mexican band Banda El Recodo. She noted that his passion for music was evident as he frequently sang songs by regional Mexican groups like Los Canelos and Los Alegres. Sánchez indicated that Guzmán, who grew up in a poor farming family in La Tuna, a village in Badiraguato, was sidetracked from his musical aspirations due to a lack of education, resources, and opportunities, which ultimately led him into drug trafficking. Guzmán is currently serving a life sentence in the U.S. following his conviction on drug-trafficking, guns, and conspiracy charges.
