Texas Governor Greg Abbott Waives Restrictions on Dyed Diesel Amid High Prices
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued a statewide disaster proclamation, temporarily waiving restrictions on dyed diesel. This action aims to provide relief to Texas farmers and ranchers who are currently facing high production costs. Dyed diesel, which is typically not permitted on Texas roadways, is less expensive than regular diesel because it is sold without a motor fuel tax. The temporary declaration also relaxes weight limits, allowing trucks carrying fuel, agricultural, or timber loads to weigh up to 95,000 pounds. This measure is intended to reduce the number of trips required and lower overall fuel costs for the agricultural sector. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller expressed satisfaction with the governor's action, noting that he had been advocating for a temporary suspension of the state's 20-cent per gallon tax since April. The proclamation states that the diesel shortage poses a threat to the health and safety of Texans and will remain in effect for 30 days unless extended.
