Man Accused in Las Cruces Crime Spree Arrested in El Paso Following Home Invasion
Jesus Angel Cortez, a 26-year-old resident of Sunland Park, has been arrested in El Paso, Texas, after allegedly breaking into a home and locking himself in a bathroom. This arrest follows a reported crime spree in Las Cruces, New Mexico. According to the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD), Cortez is accused of an unprovoked drive-by shooting at the intersection of South Solano Drive and Missouri Avenue, which injured a 34-year-old man with a gunshot wound and his 11-year-old son with shrapnel injuries. The victims stated they had no prior interaction with Cortez. Later the same day, authorities believe Cortez attempted to abduct a child from the home of the child's mother, leaving behind a broken window and a gun.
