El Paso City Council Approves 2026-27 Budget with Property Tax Increase
The El Paso City Council has approved its Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget, which includes a property tax rate of $0.798000 per $100 of taxable value. This rate is approximately 1.1 cents lower than the initially proposed rate of $0.809487. Despite the reduction from the proposed rate, city officials estimate that a single-family homeowner will see an annual increase of about $105, or $8.75 per month, in their property taxes. The budget includes approximately $658.6 million in General Fund spending. The council made nearly $6.5 million in reductions to the introduced budget, bringing the total reductions to $6,495,971. The vote passed with only two city council members, Rep. Lily Limon and Rep. Cynthia Trejo, voting against it. This marks the first time in three years that the FY 2027 budget does not utilize unrestricted General Fund balance to cover ongoing operating expenses.
