Public Safety Officer Cleared in Vehicle-Pedestrian Collision, Investigation Ongoing
A Public Safety officer at Lafayette College has been deemed not at fault in a vehicle-pedestrian collision that injured student Allison Stein '27. Director of Public Safety Jeff Troxell stated that the officer, Jon Frantz, was not driving recklessly and that Stein '27 stepped into the side of the vehicle. This contradicts Stein's '27 earlier statement, which alleged the vehicle hit her from behind and described the officer as 'crude, accusatory, and unapologetic.' The investigation into the incident is still active, according to Troxell. He did not specify how investigators determined the cause or Frantz's driving behavior but mentioned that typical investigations consider factors like weather, speed, interviews, and witness accounts. A witness, Eva Carrera '28, stated that Public Safety had not contacted her for a statement. Public Safety does not currently require its officers to wear body cameras or use dashboard cameras.
