Man Charged in ICU Nurse's Death Released on Bond, Now Wanted for Probation Revocation
Ethan Ortiz, charged with intoxication manslaughter in the July 5 death of ICU nurse Joseph Perales Jr., was released on a $150,000 bond. Perales was a passenger in an Uber when Ortiz, allegedly intoxicated, rear-ended the vehicle. At the time of the crash, Ortiz was already serving nine years of deferred probation in Wharton County after pleading guilty in 2021 to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Wharton County has since filed a motion to revoke Ortiz's probation, citing the Harris County intoxication manslaughter charge as one of the violations. Consequently, Ortiz is now wanted in connection with this probation revocation. His next court appearance in Harris County is scheduled for November 11.
