Florida Minimum Wage Rises to $15 Per Hour, Completing Voter-Approved Increase
Florida's minimum wage is set to increase to $15 per hour on Thursday, October 1st, marking the final one-dollar increment of a voter-approved constitutional amendment. This amendment was passed by Florida voters in 2020. Karen Woodall, representing the Florida People’s Advocacy Center, stated that this pay increase is 'much needed for Florida’s lowest-paid workers and it's a start.' For full-time workers, this increase could translate to an additional $2,100 annually. Future adjustments to the minimum wage in Florida will be tied to inflation. While the federal minimum wage remains at $7.25 per hour, states like Florida have their own minimum wage laws, and employees are entitled to the higher of the two rates.
