Senator Roger Marshall Ceases Taxpayer-Funded Florida Trips Prior to Hurricane Damage to Sarasota Home
U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, a Kansas Republican, has reportedly stopped billing taxpayers for trips to Florida since a hurricane damaged his Sarasota home in September 2024. A review of expenditure records by The Star indicates that between July 2021 and July 2024, Senator Marshall charged his office over $18,800 in travel expenses for trips that included stops in the Sarasota area. One specific instance on December 18, 2021, shows his office spent $318 on airfare from Washington, D.C. to Sarasota, five days after he signed off on a boat lift installation at his Florida property. His office provided itemized receipts totaling $5,296 in reimbursements for purchases made within Florida during these trips but declined to offer specific details regarding the official business conducted on at least 14 occasions over three years. Senator Marshall has stated that his Sarasota house was "destroyed by a hurricane" and is now attempting to sell the property, which is listed for $1.45 million.
