Fort Scott's Golf Course Faces Financial Challenges Despite Community Support
The city of Fort Scott, Kansas, is grappling with the financial sustainability of its golf course, Woodland Hills. Despite being purchased with community donations, the course is not covering its operational costs. Financial advisor Ben Hart reported to city commissioners that the course's revenues are insufficient to meet expenses, suggesting it might need to be reintegrated into the general fund. The course has required significant financial transfers from the general fund to cover losses, amounting to over $200,000 in recent years. The city has invested in the course's infrastructure and amenities, but the financial model remains unsustainable.
