Florida Cabinet Approves Terrorism Designations, Facing Immediate Legal Challenge
Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet have voted to designate over 90 groups as terrorist organizations, a move that has already prompted a legal challenge. Among the groups labeled for domestic or international terrorism are the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Muslim Brotherhood, and the anti-fascism movement known as antifa. The designations also include more than 90 foreign organizations already recognized as foreign terrorist organizations by the U.S. government, such as the Venezuelan crime syndicate Tren de Aragua, two Mexican drug cartels, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran. This decision was made with minimal public comment and no opportunity for public input during the Cabinet meeting. The designations are set to take effect on November 5.
