UCLA School of Dentistry Launches Online Training Program for Community Health Workers to Improve Oral Health Access
The UCLA School of Dentistry has introduced a new online training program designed to equip community health workers (CHWs) with the necessary skills to educate, advocate for, and inspire the communities they serve regarding oral health. This initiative, known as the California Community Health Worker Oral Health Training Program, primarily targets CHWs across California. A key component of the program, Session 5, also instructs dental providers on how to effectively integrate CHWs into their practices and bill for their services. The program is funded by the California Department of Public Health’s Office of Oral Health. Dr. Francisco Ramos-Gomez, Director of UCLA’s Center for Children’s Oral Health, led the team responsible for creating this training. The self-paced course comprises five sessions, each featuring video lessons, knowledge checks, and additional readings.
