Flavonoid-Rich Diets Linked to Lower Parkinson's Disease Risk in New Study
A recent study published in the journal *Frontiers in Nutrition* indicates that a dietary pattern rich in flavonoids is associated with a modestly lower risk of hospital-recorded Parkinson's disease (PD). Researchers analyzed data from 123,655 participants in the UK Biobank, focusing on the intake of 11 flavonoid-rich foods, including black tea, green tea, red wine, apples, berries, grapes, oranges, grapefruit, sweet peppers, onions, and dark chocolate. The study identified 796 incident cases of PD and found that individuals with the highest flavonoid diet scores had a lower incidence of the disease compared to those with the lowest scores. While no single food source or flavonoid subclass showed a significant individual association after multiple-testing correction, the combined intake of these foods demonstrated a protective effect.
