Family of Abington Teen Killed in Police Chase Disputes Stolen Car Claim
The family of Sebastian Hamilton, a 17-year-old from Weymouth, Massachusetts, who died in a car crash during a police chase, claims the vehicle involved was not stolen. The incident occurred on July 29 when an Abington police officer attempted to stop the SUV Hamilton was driving, which then crashed into a tree. Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene, and four teenage passengers were hospitalized with serious injuries. The police had reported the SUV as stolen, but Hamilton's great-aunt, Mary Ellen, stated that the car belonged to another teenager's parent and was taken without permission. Police Chief John Bonney acknowledged the vehicle was reported stolen but did not confirm who took it. The officer involved in the pursuit is on leave, and the incident is under investigation.
