Federal Judge Spares Baldwin Postal Worker Additional Jail Time for Mail Delay and Destruction
A federal judge has ruled against imposing additional jail time on Timothy Orion Chandler, a 23-year-old former contract worker for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), who pleaded guilty to delaying or destroying mail. Chief U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Beaverstock sentenced Chandler to the approximately one month he had already spent in jail following his arrest in March. In addition to the time served, Chandler will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for three years. Chandler admitted to having hundreds of pieces of undelivered mail, enough to fill about eight post office bins, in his Robertsdale apartment. Investigators discovered mail scattered throughout his living space, including under chair cushions, in the stove, on top of cabinets, and inside the refrigerator, with some greeting cards found opened.
