Environmental Changes in Ventura County Raise Flood and Mudslide Concerns

These actions are said to have disrupted the natural environment, increasing risks of floods, mudslides, and wildfires. The changes reportedly impact the Santa Clara River watershed, which is vital for groundwater replenishment and wildlife habitats. The streams in the area, though seasonal, are crucial for endangered species and water flow management during the rainy season. The Guzman family’s company, Santa Paula Hay & Grain and Ranches, is also undergoing bankruptcy proceedings, complicating the legal case. The district attorney seeks fines and remediation of the environmental damage caused by these alleged violations.
