Southern California is experiencing a historic October heat wave, with temperatures soaring 15 to 20 degrees above average across multiple cities. The National Weather Service has described this as a 'major and long-lasting heat wave,' with no immediate end in sight. Downtown Los Angeles has recorded four consecutive days of temperatures exceeding 100°F (37.8°C), nearing the longest streak on record. Several cities have shattered single-day October temperature records, including Oxnard at 98°F (36.7°C), Camarillo at 99°F (37.2°C), Woodland Hills at 106°F (41.1°C), Anaheim at 104°F (40°C), and Santa Ana at 106°F (41.1°C). The heat wave is affecting coastal areas, the Bay Area, and the Central Valley, with elevated temperatures expected to persist through midweek.
