USDOT Allocates $426 Million to Combat Freight and Highway Congestion Across 12 States
The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has announced a significant investment of $426 million through its Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight and Highway Projects (INFRA) program. This funding is directed towards critical infrastructure projects in 12 states, aiming to alleviate congestion bottlenecks, expand capacity on vital bypasses used by thousands of freight trucks daily, and add lanes to some of the nation's busiest highways. Specific projects include an $85 million allocation to the Florida Department of Transportation for constructing a general use lane in each direction along a 20-mile stretch of Interstate 4 in Seminole and Volusia counties. Additionally, $25 million will go to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority to convert a four-lane expressway into an eight-lane standard freeway, addressing a corridor with a 30% higher collision rate than the statewide average and eliminating a critical freight bottleneck.
