Force Detroit Leader Urges Gun Safety and Secure Storage After Child Shooting Incident
Eyvette Hansberry, lead community care manager for Force Detroit, is urging Detroit residents to prioritize firearm safety and secure gun storage following a shooting incident involving an 11-year-old on the city's west side. The incident, which occurred on Artesian Street near Tireman Avenue, serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with unsecured firearms. Hansberry emphasized that gun violence has devastating consequences and stressed the importance of gun owners, even certified ones, securing their firearms and keeping them out of reach of children. Force Detroit is actively working within the community, providing resources such as job training, advocacy, and support. The organization partners with the city to offer gun locks and connect residents with gun safety classes, aiming to prevent future firearm-related incidents.
