Silver Spring Man Convicted of Assault for Hair Fondling on Metro
Bryan Betancur, a resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, was found guilty in D.C. Superior Court of simple assault for fondling a woman's hair on a Red Line train in February. The incident, which was recorded and posted online, has left the victim feeling paranoid and exposed in public spaces. Betancur, who has already served 125 days in custody due to a bail violation, faces a maximum sentence of 180 days and a $1,000 fine. He is also facing additional charges of stalking and assault in separate incidents. Betancur, identified by the FBI as a self-professed white supremacist, was previously involved in the January 6 Capitol insurrection.
