Explosions and Fire at Ohio Industrial Building Kill Two Workers; OSHA Investigating
Two workers were killed and two to three others sustained minor injuries following explosions and a subsequent large fire at Brent Industries, an industrial recycling business in Toledo, Ohio, early Tuesday. The explosions occurred shortly before 5 a.m. during a shift change. Flames and dark smoke were seen pouring from the building, with aerial images showing that nearly the entire roof was gone and walls were blown out. Fire Chief Allison Armstrong confirmed that the bodies of a man and a woman were discovered inside the smoldering building. Emergency crews faced challenges including hazardous materials, runoff, and the threat of further explosions while searching for victims. Environmental officials reported no hazardous threat in the air based on monitors. The cause of the explosions is not yet known, and the fire was still burning on Tuesday afternoon. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched an investigation into the incident.
