U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey Raises Concerns Over ICE Detention Conditions and Transparency in Kentucky Jails
U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey, a Democrat representing Kentucky’s 3rd Congressional District, along with two House colleagues, visited the Campbell County jail in July to assess conditions for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainees. This visit comes amidst reports from the League of Women Voters of Kentucky indicating a significant increase in ICE detention in Kentucky jails, coupled with a lack of transparency regarding detainee information. The League's analysis found that some online rosters for jails housing federal immigration detainees are unclear about local charges or detainee status, with three jails not listing individuals in ICE custody at all.
