Rep. Jack Bergman Silent on Tariff Impact Amid U.S.-Canada Trade Tensions
U.S. Representative Jack Bergman of Michigan has remained notably silent on the impact of tariffs imposed by President Trump on Canadian goods, which have significantly affected his constituents. Despite being a vocal supporter of U.S.-Canada relations during Trump's first term, Bergman has not addressed the recent tariffs in his public communications. The tariffs, which include a 50% increase on various Canadian products, have led to a substantial decrease in cross-border traffic and economic activity in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge, a critical commercial link, has seen a 24% drop in crossings, resulting in an estimated $82.9 million loss in local spending. Bergman, who has faced criticism for his lack of presence in Michigan, has not held a public town hall since his first year in office.
