U.S. Parents Express Concerns and Support for E-Bike Safety Regulations for Children
A national poll conducted by C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital National Poll on Children’s Health reveals that U.S. parents recognize both the benefits and risks associated with e-bike use among children aged 11-18. While many parents view e-bikes as a convenient mode of transportation, a source of fun, and a way to encourage outdoor activity and independence, a significant majority (82%) are concerned about the risk of injury to the rider, and 62% worry about injuries to pedestrians. The poll highlights a lack of clarity regarding where e-bikes should be ridden, with 45% of parents unsure about appropriate riding locations. Despite these concerns, only 1 in 10 parents support a complete ban on e-bikes. Instead, there is strong parental support for regulations such as helmet requirements (80%), clear labeling for minimum age (68%), designated riding areas (63%), age 18 restrictions for powerful e-bikes (59%), and mandatory safety training (57%).
