Sterling Heights Police Release Parody Video to Promote School Bus Safety Amidst Rising Crash Data
The Sterling Heights Police Department has launched a new school bus safety campaign featuring a parody video titled “The Real Miss Daisy.” The video, which parodies Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady,” aims to remind drivers to stop for school buses when their stop arms are extended. Sterling Heights Police Lt. Aaron Susalla wrote the parody lyrics and appears in the video as the featured rapper. The initiative comes during October, designated as School Bus Safety Month, and in response to concerning Michigan traffic crash data. Last year, the state recorded nearly 1,200 school bus-related crashes, three of which were deadly. A significant number of these incidents occurred during school commuting hours, with 434 crashes between 6-9 a.m. and 544 between 2-5 p.m. Recently, a 9-year-old boy on Detroit’s west side was hit by a car after exiting a school bus, highlighting the ongoing danger.
