Tom Gores and Detroit Pistons Partner in $3 Billion Detroit Health Initiative
Tom Gores, owner of the Detroit Pistons, is a key partner in the 'Future of Health' initiative, a $3 billion investment aimed at transforming Detroit's healthcare, research, and economic landscape. This initiative brings together Henry Ford Health, Michigan State University, the Detroit Pistons, the Gilbert Family Foundation, and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. The core of this transformation is the development of a new academic hospital campus, including a 20-story, 1.2-million-square-foot patient tower slated to open in 2029. Additionally, a Comprehensive Theranostics Center, a $50 million commitment, is scheduled to open in December 2027. This center will integrate advanced molecular imaging, radiopharmaceutical therapy, radiopharmacy manufacturing and distribution, and clinical research. The initiative seeks to establish Detroit as a leading destination for health, science, research, and innovation.
