Macomb County Experiences Widespread Power Outages Following Severe Storms
Macomb County, Michigan, was hit by severe thunderstorms for two consecutive days, resulting in widespread power outages affecting thousands of homes and businesses. On Thursday, nearly 311,000 utility customers in Southeast Michigan, including 2,100 in Macomb County, lost electricity. The hardest-hit areas in Macomb County were primarily between 24 Mile and 27 Mile roads and Van Dyke and Dequindre. Despite a tornado warning issued for the southern portion of the county, which was later canceled, winds exceeding 70 mph were reported. Brandon Lewis, the county’s emergency management director, confirmed that while there were typical storm-related issues like downed tree limbs and power lines, particularly in western Shelby and Washington townships, no significant damage was reported. Department of Public Works crews worked to clear debris, and DTE Energy deployed over 3,400 storm response team members, including personnel from outside Michigan, to restore power.
