Michigan Fall Foliage Forecast: Peak Colors Expected Late October
As summer transitions to autumn, Michigan's trees are set to display vibrant fall colors. According to Explore Fall's Michigan Fall Foliage Map 2026, the western Upper Peninsula will be the first to see leaves change, starting in the second week of September. The transformation will then progress southward, with the entire state experiencing color changes by the first week of October. The southern Lower Peninsula, including cities like Lansing, Grand Rapids, and Detroit, will be the last to see the shift. Peak foliage times vary across the state, with the brightest colors expected in Lansing from October 25-31. By early November, most leaves across Michigan are anticipated to have fallen. Popular destinations for fall foliage include the Keweenaw Peninsula, Traverse City, and the Tunnel of Trees.
