U.S. Customs and Border Protection Apprehends Person of Interest in Tucson Police Recruit Shooting Using Biometrics at Border
Alexis Monter, 30, a person of interest in the fatal shooting of a Tucson police recruit, was apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the Douglas Port of Entry. Monter was caught while attempting to enter the U.S. through the pedestrian lane. A CBP officer identified an active National Crime Information Center warrant during processing. Officers then took Monter to a holding area, where they confirmed the warrant status and used biometrics to verify his identity. Following verification, CBP contacted the Douglas Police Department, which subsequently took Monter into custody. Monter is considered a person of interest in the investigation into the death of 23-year-old Carlos Ramirez because he is believed to be the last registered owner of an Acura MDX linked to the case. Two other individuals, Santiago Jorge Rogers and Alex Barnett, have also been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
