The family of Tyler Jay Smith, an 18-year-old who died from a gunshot wound on July 4 in Lexington, Kentucky, is seeking further answers regarding his death. Lexington police’s preliminary investigation indicates Smith died from an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound, with family members stating police informed them he was playing Russian roulette. However, Smith's family and community members gathered to express their belief that there is more to the story and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Necee Anderson, Smith's grandmother, highlighted the family's struggle with unanswered questions, especially after celebrating his high school graduation shortly before his death. Attendees, including Matt Israel who traveled 10 hours, emphasized the family's pain and the need for truth. Smith's cousin stated that he was not involved in gangs and was a 'wholesome person.'
