Idaho State Police Breaks Ground on New Forensic Services Laboratory in Meridian

The Idaho State Police (ISP) recently broke ground on a new 20,000-square-foot forensic laboratory at its Headquarters in Meridian. This $29 million facility is scheduled for completion in January 2028 and represents a significant investment in Idaho’s forensic science capabilities. The new laboratory will house critical services including DNA casework, latent print examination, digital forensics, and the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN). ISP Forensic Services (ISPFS) provides scientific analysis and related services statewide, supporting 114 law enforcement agencies, prosecutors in all 44 counties, 14 public defender offices, and 44 coroners. In Fiscal Year 2026, the laboratory system processed 16,069 case submissions, including 3,745 DNA samples. This project is Phase 1 of a larger planned laboratory expansion, funded through the State of Idaho General Fund.

The 4-year-old passenger in Isley's vehicle was improperly restrained in the back seat and sustained life-threatening injuries, remaining in critical condition at a local hospital. Isley, who suffered minor injuries, is being charged with driving while impaired (DWI), felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, felony serious bodily injury by vehicle, driving while license revoked, driving left of center, and a child restraint violation. The driver of the flatbed truck sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. The Greensboro Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident.
