Miami-Dade Woman Charged with Child Abuse and Arson After Pouring Hot Wax on Daughter and Setting Kitchen Fire
Meliza Campos-Sanchez, 26, a Miami-Dade woman, has been arrested and is facing charges including child abuse with no great bodily harm, child neglect with no great bodily harm, and arson. Authorities responded to a call regarding an intentional fire set in the kitchen of a home in the 4200 block of Southwest 95th Avenue. Investigators discovered that Campos-Sanchez had posted two videos to her Instagram account. One video showed her using lit candles to pour melted wax on her leg and then on the hands of one of her two daughters, aged 6 and 3. The other video depicted her singing and dancing in her kitchen while holding a lighter, before dropping two articles of clothing on the floor, spraying them with a liquid believed to be rubbing alcohol, and then setting them on fire. The older daughter informed investigators that she used a bowl of water to extinguish the flames after her mother started the fire.
