Three Individuals Charged in Tennessee After Cats Shot with Blow Darts

Three people have been charged in Tennessee following incidents where stray cats were shot with blow darts near a gas station. Darlene Hooper was arrested and faces three counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, which are Class E felonies, and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Two juveniles have also been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals in Houston County Juvenile Court. The attacks, which occurred in Erin, resulted in the deaths of several animals, while one cat named Xena survived with a dart lodged through her torso, narrowly missing her spine and aorta. Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue was alerted to the situation after a dead cat and an injured kitten were found. Volunteers later discovered more deceased cats that had been shot with blow darts. Police recovered a blow dart gun and darts believed to be used in the attacks. Two Individuals Arrested on Animal Cruelty Charges in Bexar County

Julian Salazar, 32, and Sarah Thompson, 30, were arrested and charged with six counts each of animal cruelty in Bexar County, Texas. The arrests followed a welfare check at a home on the Far Northwest Side, where deputies discovered six severely underweight dogs and a deceased canine. Authorities described the surviving dogs as 'skin and bones.' Investigators determined that the owners had intentionally neglected to provide adequate food and care for the animals, despite having food available inside the home. The dead dog was found inside the residence, while the surviving dogs were located outside, unchained and with space to move. Both Salazar and Thompson were booked into the Bexar County jail, with bond set at $21,000 each. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is also investigating allegations that three additional dogs may have died at the property.

Former NFL player LeShon Johnson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $30,000 fine. This sentencing comes after his conviction on six dog fighting-related charges. Evidence presented at trial revealed that Johnson had been operating a large-scale dog fighting and trafficking venture since at least 2007, breeding and selling fighting dogs for profit. This operation, which he referred to as 'Mal Kant Kennels,' involved the breeding and trafficking of hundreds of dogs across the country. Authorities seized 190 dogs from his property, marking the largest seizure from a single individual in a federal dog fighting case. Johnson had previously pleaded guilty to Oklahoma dog fighting offenses in 2004.
