UCHealth Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Sharing of Patient Data with Facebook
UCHealth is facing a lawsuit filed by a Larimer County man, alleging that the health system's website used a tool that sent patients' personal information to Facebook's parent company, Meta. The lawsuit claims that UCHealth employed Meta's Pixel tool, which tracks visitor actions, to collect personal data when users accessed the 'Find a Doctor' function and possibly the patient portal. This data allegedly included search terms related to medical conditions and symptoms, which were then shared with Meta for marketing purposes. The lawsuit argues that this practice violates the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which restricts the sharing of identifiable private information without patient consent.
