Humane Society of Missouri Rescues Over 100 Animals from Lawrence County Property in Third Intervention
The Humane Society of Missouri’s Animal Cruelty Task Force, in collaboration with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri Department of Agriculture, is currently rescuing more than 100 animals from a property in Lawrence County, Missouri. This intervention follows concerns raised by a private individual and widely shared social media videos depicting numerous animals in small wire cages. Upon arrival, the Task Force observed what was described as one of the worst animal hoarding situations in over 40 years of experience, with animals found amidst mountains of trash, overgrown vegetation, and dilapidated vehicles. The only water source appeared to be a single well and rainwater collection areas. This marks the third time the Humane Society of Missouri has responded to animal welfare issues at this specific property, having removed 31 dogs in 2000 and securing the voluntary surrender of 27 animals in 2021.
