18-Year-Old Rescued After Being Buried in Sand on Cape Cod Beach

An 18-year-old individual was successfully rescued after being partially buried in sand on a Cape Cod beach in Sandwich, Massachusetts, on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred between Sagamore and Scusset beaches, where the person became stuck in a hole, buried up to the middle of their chest and reportedly sinking further. First responders from various agencies, including the Sandwich Fire Department and the Barnstable County Technical Rescue team, were on the scene for nearly an hour. Approximately 25 first responders worked together, utilizing heavy rescue equipment, to extricate the teenager. Paramedics initiated life support during the rescue. After being pulled out, the conscious and alert teenager was transported to a nearby school and then flown by medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital, where they are in stable condition. Another person was evaluated at the scene but declined further treatment.
