Ancient Seashell Bead Discovery Reveals Long-Distance Connections in Prehistoric California
Scientists have investigated two seashell beads discovered in California, dating back 8,500 years. These beads, made from the shells of the giant rock scallop, were found far inland, suggesting long-distance connections between ancient coastal and inland communities. The older bead, approximately 8,508 years old, was traced back to Southern California, indicating it may have traveled a significant distance from its origin. This discovery sheds light on the movement and interactions of prehistoric peoples in the region.
