Oklahoma State University Announces New Veterinary Teaching Hospital to Address Rural Shortages
Oklahoma State University (OSU) is moving forward with the construction of a new 275,000-square-foot veterinary teaching hospital in Stillwater. This significant investment, supported by a $250 million state appropriation in 2025 and additional private funding, aims to address the critical shortage of veterinarians in rural Oklahoma, particularly those serving livestock and food animals. The new facility will be located north of State Highway 51 and west of Western Road, on part of the university’s current Agronomy Research Station property. The project represents a major expansion and revitalization of OSU’s veterinary medicine program, which currently operates in a facility designed for smaller class sizes. The new hospital will feature enhanced large-animal facilities, advanced diagnostic technology, and increased capacity for clinical training and patient care, including CT and MRI imaging, radiography, ultrasound, and a linear accelerator for cancer treatment.
