Louisiana's Inactive Voter List Puts Nearly Half a Million Registrations at Risk
In Louisiana, approximately 447,000 voters, representing about 15% of the state's registered voters, have been classified as inactive. This status arises when voters fail to participate in recent elections or do not respond to mailings from the Secretary of State's office. In East Baton Rouge Parish alone, around 48,000 names are on this list, a slight decrease from the previous year. The state has spent over $68,000 to publish this list for East Baton Rouge Parish. Despite being on the inactive list, voters can still cast their ballots, although the process may take longer. The Secretary of State's office attempts to contact these voters before potentially canceling their registration if they do not vote in two consecutive federal elections.
