Deputies in Gower, Missouri, escaped injury after a suspect's car exploded during a police pursuit on Saturday afternoon. The incident began around 11:37 a.m. when Clinton County dispatchers received a call about a man making threats of 'suicide by cop.' Authorities were warned that the suspect, identified as Christopher Williams, 54, of Gower, possessed a gun and homemade bombs, intending to provoke police into shooting him. At 12:19 p.m., deputies located Williams outside a home, holding a black backpack. He refused orders to stop, entered a car, and fled. During the chase, Williams reportedly drove directly towards deputies' vehicles and held what appeared to be a bomb out of his window as he passed them.
