Rio Rancho City Council Rejects Maverik Gas Station Proposal Over Traffic Concerns
The Rio Rancho Governing Body has denied a site plan for a new Maverik gas station proposed for the intersection of New Mexico Highway 528 NE and Obregon Road NE. The decision, made with a 5-1 vote, stemmed from unresolved concerns regarding traffic circulation and its potential impact on nearby residential streets. District 3 Councilor Bob Tyler emphasized that the rejection was not about discouraging business but about ensuring resident safety. Previously, in June, the Governing Body had postponed a vote on the plan, requesting that developers engage with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) to secure highway access and conduct resident outreach to address issues like traffic safety and light pollution.
